What is the best temperature to set your boiler?

The temperature you set your boiler at depends upon the type and size of building you’re trying to heat. Commercial industry heating requirements will vary because of this, so to work it out, you must think about the business you are aiming to heat. However, you will find that most radiators typically run at anything from 60ºC up to 80ºC.

For an energy efficient setting, temperatures can be set at 35ºC, but this can take a while to heat a room and often requires the heating to be on continually. Therefore, this would mean that you need to consider the space and how quickly you would like the room to heat up.

Warming up: 3 key things to consider…

If you are trying to discover the optimal temperature to set the boiler at for your business, there are certain points to think about. Here is a look at how you can make your decision:

1. Radiator Size

Selecting the right size radiator can make a huge difference. If you want to try a lower temperature and you’re happy to add to or alter the radiators, getting the one that is the perfect size can be straightforward. Look at the space you want to heat, the insulation and the desired temperature to determine the best radiator for the job.

2. What’s Your Business?

Another key consideration is the commercial sector you work in. If you manage a care home, the heating requirements of residents may be different to guests in a spa. Should you be thinking of trying a lower-temperature heating system, thinking carefully about the building you work in and the people who are there can be a major factor. For example, if you run a hotel, unoccupied rooms and quiet periods need to be factored in. Therefore, you may need a boiler that allows you to easily alternate the temperature accordingly. While you don’t want to waste energy heating a building that is half-full, you also want to ensure guests are comfortable. Should your heating system allow you to warm the building at a lower temperature but there are a lot of rooms to heat, running the boiler at a warmer temperature may be better.

3. Is heat escaping?

Does the building you’re based in lose a lot of heat? In cases where looking at insulation and making other adjustments can’t help to retain the heat, the higher temperature setting on your boiler could be the best option. As with any part of commercial facilities, it’s important to ask an expert who can advise on layouts, workflows, regulations and maintenance when it comes to heating. Our team can help you make informed choices, and find the best boilers for your specific needs.
